Background and Objectives
Blood Transfusion is vital in saving lives. Blood usage management in clinical settings as the medical part and parcel has a significant status in the appropriate blood providing. The purpose of this study is to explain the management analysis of blood supply, processing, and distribution in the Blood Transfusion Center of Kerman in order to effectively manage and provide corrective solutions.
Materials and Methods
In this qualitative study, sampling was selected by purposive and snowball method. Experts with adequate competence on blood supply management, processing, and distribution and competent researchers attended semi-structured interviews. The interview was conducted face to face. The interviews at the tenth interview attempt reached enough. The contents of interviews were specifically code labled. The codes were studied and modified by the research group. Finally, the tables were made using concepts and codes. The most important challenges was identified based on the highest frequency repetition of challenges among interviewees.
Results
Qualitative data analysis showed cultural factors, beliefs, new social phenomena, economical issues and the factors related to blood services and clinical setting are important challenges in blood supply. In the domain of blood processing, the most important challenges were the old and out of order equipment and inadequate number of staff; in the domain of blood distribution, the inadequate awareness of personnel in clinical settings, the inadequate number of personnel, and the equipment shortage. Conclusions
It seems necessary that Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization, attract participation in carrying out supportive measures at the information dissemination and policy levels in the three areas of providing blood supply, processing, and distribution. This requires long-term policy making and strategy setting and recruitment of competent human resources in hospitals.
